Want to Win the Game of Life?

“It’s the game of life. Do I win or do I lose? One day they’re gonna shut the game down. I gotta have as much fun and go around the board as many times as I can before it’s my turn to leave.” ~ Tupac Shakur

“Life is a song – sing it. Life is a game – play it. Life is a challenge – meet it. Life is a dream – realize it. Life is a sacrifice – offer it. Life is love – enjoy it.” ~ Sai Baba

Who doesn’t love a good game? There is something that gets sparked in us when we play. We open up to fun, adventure, laughter, and flow when we engage in a game we love.

So why not create a life like that? One that filled with that spark of fun, adventure, laughter and flow? Well for one we take life very seriously and that sternness shuts off our ability to get in that zone. So how can you shift from life being a serious endeavor to life being a fun game? Here are three steps to transition you.

Decide to Play

Your first step is to decide to see life as a game. The reality is life happens every day. We get up, we go through our day, we have good things happen, we face challenges, we deal with the same irritation for the ten thousandth time, we feel a wide range of emotions, we judge whether or not the day was good or bad, and we go to bed so we can do it all over again tomorrow.

Those things are going to happen every day we wake up. But what we can control is how we approach life. It’s easy to get all wrapped up in the seriousness of life. The bills, the pressures, the daily irritations; these things tend to draw our attention to a dark place. Especially when they build up over time. We forget we have a choice about how we see life, but you do and I’m here to remind you to make a different choice today and give yourself a gift.

Decide to approach life as a game. You can still be serious about it, but with a sense of playfulness thrown in. Take for example those Green Bay fans, they take wearing those cheese hats very seriously, yet there is something very playful about their convictions! That’s what deciding to play the game of life will feel like for you.

Design the Game

Every good game first starts as a design in someone’s mind. You are your game master so it’s up to you to design your game. Pick an outcome you want in your life. Is it a better job? Or maybe a better relationship with your kids? Whatever it is decide on a topic.

Take out a really big sheet of paper or get a sheet of poster board. Make it a fun color. Now work backwards. Design it like The Game of Life or Candyland. Put on the end point you want to arrive at and draw a game board that gets you from where you are now to where you want to be. Include along the way the steps you need to get there and the obstacles that might pop up to get you off track. Make up some cards to help you out, maybe your version of a Get Out of Jail Free Card would be Give Myself a Pass for Making a Mistake Today. Get creative and create a small deck of reward cards and help cards.

By designing a game board you are infusing your process with the lightness of play.

Get in the Game

In order to play you must actually get in the game. This sounds obvious but many times my clients think they are playing their game but they are just watching from the sidelines. To get in the game you must take the actions needed to move you along. You must roll the dice, which looks like taking risks and making choices so your game piece can advance. Then you must take action and actually move forward. And then you must play the hand you get dealt. If you get stuck, pull a card. If you need help, phone a friend. If you lose a turn, take that time to rethink your strategy and look for the road that has the most fun and head that way.

“Life is like a game of cards. The hand you are dealt is determinism; the way you play it is free will.” ~ Jawaharlal Nehru

July’s joy-full lesson is life happens. You will have to deal with the same stuff whether or not you feel burdened or you feel playful. You can’t control what happens out there but you can control how you react inside and that determines how much you enjoy your game of life. So please play. Please design a life filled with that spark of joy that comes from seeing life as an adventure instead of a burden.

Is Your Pursuit of Balance Making You Dizzy?

“Happiness is not a matter of intensity but of balance, order, rhythm and harmony.” ~ Thomas Merton

“A well-developed sense of humor is the pole that adds balance to your steps as you walk the tightrope of life.”  ~ William Arthur Ward

One of the funniest things is when my cat chases her tail. She looks at it like it is not part of her – like it is a surprise every time she sees it. She will whirl around and around, never quite able to catch it. Then she’ll stop and stare at it and go in the other direction, as if the tail is chasing her back. She can amuse herself (and us) for hours.

We are all a little like my cat concerning our mind-body complex. Our minds chase after anything – worry, aches, & stray thoughts. Our bodies feel like they’ve turned on us and are chasing us down with dis-eases, pain, aging, hormonal changes, & irregularities. And we look at both of them sometimes as if they are not part of us but a foreigner occupying our space.

But like so many things in life it is when we stop chasing and rest that the answer can approach us in our stillness. Our body-mind complex is a beautiful symphony of ever changing homeostasis – we just need to understand the tune it is playing so we can enjoy the performance.

Our systems are one thing with many parts – much like our hand is made up of a palm and five digits, yet it is not 6 different things. As one thing every part is looking for connection and communication from all the other parts. However, life often gets in the way and these threads are severed by traumas, accidents, dis-ease,  & emotional stressors. When this happens we have been culturally conditioned to look at the result as if it exists within a vacuum. For example, if we have knee pain we only think about alleviating it rather than thinking about what could have caused it to spring up in the first place and then addressing that issue.

But there is another way. A holistic solution would take into account all the aspects associated with whatever discomfort you feel and address the root causes rather than the solutions.

For example, in BodyTalk™, an energy therapy system I use with my clients, each aspect of the body has a consciousness. So if you are having trouble with your gallbladder then chances are you are faced with a decision you are reluctant to make, as the consciousness of the gallbladder is a catalyst for decisions and motivation. Some clients have trouble committing to a decision; paralyzed when faced with making a choice. Others are constant regretors, making decisions and then relentlessly second guessing them. Both are indicators that the consciousness of your gallbladder may be out of balance.

Your imbalance might manifest as an actual physical reaction, like gallstones or it could manifest as mental indecision, but both could be “righted” by reconnecting your gallbladder back into the body-mind symphony so all your sections are playing the same beautiful melody.

One of the best ways for you to re-integrate yourself is through intentional movements and breathing. Adding fluidity to your system has a positive impact. Here are some gentle Qigong movements I learned from Master Zhou you could use to rebalance yourself. These movements may seem simple but since they are balancing your body-mind and your left-right brain hemispheres they are more difficult than they look. Please be gentle with yourself if you do not get them right away.

Two Hands Holding the Sky

  • Stand with feet shoulder width apart and hold hands beside ears, inhale and move hands straight up towards the sky. Exhale and bring hands back to your ears. Repeat 9 times.

Pushing Down Earth & Holding Up Heaven

  • Start with feet shoulder width apart, with your right hand by your ear and your left hand under your armpit. Have right hand go up to the sky while the left hand pushes along the side of the body down to the earth while inhaling. While exhaling bring both hands back up and reverse order. Repeat 9 times.

Your breath is another way to reincorporate balance. Your breath is the connector between your body-mind complex so it has a very specific function. Here are 2 breathing exercises you can use to link communication between your body & mind.

Elevator Breathing

  • Sit in a relaxed position and breathe through your nose only. Imagine your breath begins at your navel and inhale up to your heart. Pause for a count of 3 and think of the word Peace. Exhale from your heart down to your navel, pausing for a count of 3 and thinking of the word Calm. Repeat the process 9 times.

Smile Breath

  • Smile on your inhale and relax your face on your exhale. Breath through your nose only. Repeat 9 times.

So if you ever feel like you are chasing you own tail, then stop and listen. Notice where you’ve separated part of yourself, or where your body is signaling an imbalance. Pay attention to your thoughts and feelings around your distress and they will lead you to your root causes, thus freeing you from the never ending merry-go-round of seeking relief from your pain.

What Is That Pain in Your Shoulder Trying to Tell You?

Physical pain is a signal of an imbalance in our body/mind complex. And these imbalances need to be handled holistically if you want to get rid of the root cause.

It’s much like weeding your garden. If you pull off the top part of the weed, the part you can see, the weed will either re-pop up right there again or pop up a little ways to the left because you left the root system intact.

As we are vibrational beings every aspect of our body, every organ, every joint, everything has a consciousness.

For example, the consciousness of the shoulder is support. The pathological side of it is burden. So if you are experiencing shoulder pain, your body could be trying to broadcast a subconscious state of being over burdened.

Your body will talk to you; you just have to know what to listen for.

It’s amazing to watch as people get happier with their jobs or families they no longer need surgery or medicines.

You are a vibrational being so as we work to balance out one part of your Self, then all of the others will also begin to shift back into place.

Energy Therapy Healing

Energy Therapy Healing creates results by aligning your mind/body/spirit complex. By working on a vibrational level all three of these systems are employed to bring you back to your natural state of health and happiness.

Energy Therapy Healing has been used for thousands of years in every culture. It acknowledges that your body/mind/spirit complex has the imprint of perfect health and well-being, it just might need some assistance in re-activating that imprint.

Stress and trauma can throw off our natural balance, so in order to re-align we need to “re-boot” our Innate computer so it can run its original perfect programming.

Fortunately, if you have the correct tools this is easy to accomplish. If you’d like to know how this can help you directly, please give me a call. I’m extending a free 15 minute phone consultation so you can get all your questions answered.
